As more and more women and men try BOTOX Cosmetic treatments, it’s quickly becoming our top nonsurgical procedure. This revolutionary neuromodulator lives up to the hype as an effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles.
The simple injections are quick and easy, and no recovery time is required. BOTOX can also reduce migraine headaches and excessive sweating of the palms and underarms. People from Munster and Crown Point, Indiana, and other nearby communities visit our practice in Schererville for BOTOX treatments to smooth frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.
What Is BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX Cosmetic is an injectable neuromodulator derived from purified botulinum A toxin. The injections correct wrinkles by numbing the nerves in the facial muscles so they cannot contract. As the muscles relax and lie flat, the skin becomes smooth over the musculature.
But don’t worry. BOTOX Cosmetic doesn’t freeze your face or make you look as if you’re wearing a mask. You’ll still be able to laugh, smile, and express your emotions—just without the wrinkles and creases.
Preparing for Your BOTOX Appointment
Avoid these medications and supplements in the 5 days before your appointment to minimize bruising: aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin®, Advil®), fish oil, turmeric, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s wort, and ginkgo. If you are taking one of these medications under a doctor’s care, check with your doctor before discontinuing use. You should also avoid alcohol during the 5 days before your treatment. You may take Tylenol® or Extra Strength Tylenol®. If you are unsure whether a product is safe to take before a procedure, please call our office.

More About Dr. GarzaCredentials You Can Trust
Your BOTOX Consultation With Dr. Garza
Before you begin a regular regimen of BOTOX, you will have a short consultation with Dr. Garza. She will discuss your treatment options, examine your skin and muscle tone, and determine areas of treatment. You will usually get your injections immediately after this consultation.
Treatments typically last between 10 and 20 minutes. A topical anesthetic can reduce any discomfort from the injections. Most patients report very little discomfort and little to no downtime.
BOTOX Results
Results will likely be visible within a few days, although it can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects. Following your BOTOX treatment, you should keep your head upright and avoid touching the injection site for a few hours. Results can last up to 4 months, and you can begin maintenance treatments at this time. As treatments continue, your results will last increasingly longer.
BOTOX for Men
It is no longer taboo for men to undergo cosmetic procedures. However, some men are still hesitant to pursue any surgery or treatment that may look obvious for fear of their friends or coworkers finding out. This is one of the beauties of BOTOX. When administered correctly, the results are completely natural-looking. You will still look like yourself, just more refreshed.
The goal is to look subtly younger, not change your whole face. And since there is little to no downtime, you won’t have to take time off work, and no one will have to know. The procedure is quick, and many patients experience no pain, so you can even have it performed on your lunch break. It is a great way to boost confidence with a minimally invasive procedure.
Complementary Procedures
You may also benefit from combining BOTOX with other treatments, including:
- Dermal fillers are commonly injected at the same appointment as BOTOX. This provides comprehensive nonsurgical facial rejuvenation and is sometimes called a “liquid facelift.”
- Facelift patients often complement their lower face rejuvenation with BOTOX injections for lines and wrinkles in the upper face.
- Eyelid surgery helps the eyes look more alert and refreshed, and BOTOX can enhance that effect by smoothing the forehead and frown lines.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often can I get BOTOX injections?
Because the effects of BOTOX treatments are temporary, it’s important to know how often you can get repeat injections. Most patients can return to our office about 3 to 4 months after their previous treatments. This is usually before most wrinkles return, but still long enough to experience the full benefits of each procedure. There is also some evidence that after using BOTOX for some time, patients need touch-up treatments less frequently. The results vary for each person.
How much does BOTOX cost?
BOTOX is priced by the number of units injected. Some treatment areas require only a few units, while others may need several more to get the desired results. Your total cost depends on the number of areas you want to treat, as well as how extensive your signs of aging are. We will give you a precise quote during your consultation.
What’s the difference between BOTOX and fillers?
Dermal fillers and BOTOX are both injectables used for temporary facial enhancement, but they work in different ways. BOTOX is a neurotoxin that temporarily immobilizes the small muscles that cause “dynamic wrinkles,” or the wrinkles that appear when you make facial expressions. Fillers, on the other hand, are gel products that physically fill in wrinkles and provide volume to areas where aging results in the loss of tissue. Because BOTOX and fillers treat different, specific concerns, we frequently use them simultaneously for overall rejuvenation.
