Full lips, lifted cheeks, a defined jawline, and smooth facial contours are all considered universally attractive. But aging or your inherited bone structure might make it difficult for you to enjoy these features. Dr. Rebecca Garza offers dermal fillers JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® at her Schererville, Indiana, practice to help both men and women look and feel their best.
People from Indiana cities like Crown Point, Munster, and surrounding areas seek dermal fillers from board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rebecca Garza to reduce lines, restore volume, and enhance their facial features.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dr. Garza offers the hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers JUVÉDERM and Restylane. HA is a complex sugar that attracts and binds with water to promote skin hydration and create volume. Because HA occurs naturally in the human body, neither of these fillers requires an allergy test. Depending on the fillers Dr. Garza uses, the results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years and indefinitely if you schedule regular touch-ups.
Restylane and JUVÉDERM are similar in many ways. They’re both synthetic gels made with cross-linked hyaluronic acid. They contain no human or animal DNA and have the best safety profile of all the fillers currently on the market. Each product line includes fillers specifically formulated to address different concerns, such as lost facial volume, thin lips, and wrinkles.
JUVÉDERM Fillers
JUVÉDERM Ultra and Ultra Plus: Both of these fillers are excellent choices for treating nasolabial folds and other mild to moderate lines and folds. The molecules used in Ultra Plus are slightly larger than those in JUVÉDERM Ultra, and the results tend to last a bit longer.
VOLUMA: Sunken or flat cheeks can create an older appearance, even if you have minimal wrinkles. VOLUMA lifts the mid-face without surgery and plumps the cheeks for a subtle, natural-looking enhancement. Results can last up to 2 years.
VOLLURE: This is an advanced filler approved by the FDA in 2017 to treat nasolabial folds and other deep lines around the mouth. What really sets VOLLURE apart from earlier generations of fillers is that it can last up to 18 months.
VOLBELLA: Lip augmentation is one of the most popular treatments at our practice. VOLBELLA provides a subtle enhancement to the lips, creating contoured lips without looking unnatural.
Restylane Family of Fillers
Like JUVÉDERM, Restylane is an HA gel formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Restylane helps minimize moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines). Other formulations in this family of fillers can treat specific issues, such as volume loss in the cheeks or fine lines around the lips and mouth.

More About Dr. GarzaCredentials You Can Trust
Your Filler Consultation With Dr. Garza
During your consultation, Dr. Garza examines your skin tone and facial structure before discussing your filler options. She explains the injection procedure and goes over each filler product’s benefits and risks. Once you have your questions answered and are comfortable moving forward with the treatment, she will inform you of any medications and vitamins to avoid prior to your dermal filler injections.
Preparing for Your Dermal Filler Appointment
Avoid the following medications and supplements in the 5 days before your appointment to minimize bruising: aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin®, Advil®), fish oil, turmeric, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s wort, ginkgo). If you are taking one of the above medications under a doctor’s care, check with your doctor before discontinuing use. You should also avoid alcohol during the 5 days before your treatment. You may take Tylenol® or Extra Strength Tylenol®. If you are unsure whether a product is safe to take before a procedure, please call our office.
We recommend avoiding dental work 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after your filler appointment to decrease the chance of complications.
What To Expect From Your Dermal Filler Treatment
We request you come to your filler appointment without makeup on the treatment areas. Dermal filler treatments typically last less than 30 minutes, depending on the number of injections necessary for your desired results.
Virtually all fillers are made with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that significantly alleviates any discomfort associated with the injections. A topical anesthetic can also be applied if desired. HA fillers require little to no downtime, and many patients return to their daily routine immediately following their treatment. Bruising or swelling may occur and last for hours or days, but these are easily concealed with makeup.
Complementary Procedures
You may also benefit from other nonsurgical skin rejuvenation treatments at the time of your dermal filler injections.
- BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are often combined with dermal filler treatment as part of a “liquid” or nonsurgical facelift.
- Facelift and eyelid surgery patients often enhance their results with dermal fillers
Dr. Garza will educate you about all your options so that you can feel confident as the two of you develop your treatment plan.
Dermal Filler Recovery & Results
We recommend keeping the treated injection site area clean (free from makeup or lip products) for the rest of the day after getting fillers. Avoid vigorous exercise or sweating for 24 hours after your injections.
Swelling, firmness, bruising, and tenderness can occur. If you are experiencing abnormal pain, unusual bruising, or other concerns, please call our office immediately. Even though complications are rare, you should remain in town for 48 hours after getting filler injections.
Patients notice immediate results after filler injections, but it can take up to 2 weeks to see the final results. If you have concerns, such as wanting additional filler, we can schedule a follow-up treatment 2 weeks after the initial appointment.
